Enjoying the Elusive British Summer...

30 August 2005

I’m afraid there aren’t any food related photos today – except for the over-exposed fish & chips shot (and the precursory proclamation thereof). We had such lovely weather over the bank holiday weekend – when I was in Japan, I never felt starved of sunshine during the summer, but here in the UK, summer is short and so everyone tries to enjoy it while they can. We were among them for some days out along the Norfolk and Suffolk coast, I just hope this lovely weather lasts a little longer…

  • Just beautiful, Keiko! That first shot, the one of the kids in the water, is so ethereally gorgeous. Thank you.

  • These pictures are absolutely gorgeous again - I would so buy some of them (1,2,3,7,9,10) if they were postcards. Or even posters. Or desktops/screensavers..

  • Hi Keiko, gorgeous photos, simply gorgeous. Cartier-Bresson would be proud - you definitely have an eye for ’the decisive moment’. And I really think the UK’s tourist board should hire you - I’ve never felt so tempted to go to the seaside as I do now...

  • Hi there, thanks so much for all your kind notes - luckily the summer has decided to stay a bit longer in Britain...

  • Last bit of sun in August bank holiday (sorry for being pessimistic - we might get a bit more sun in September ...) is always something quite emotional to me. Then in September, normally I get a craving for knitting. Thanks for your beautiful photos.

  • So beautiful!

  • Hi Nobody - thanks for your notes, I know what you mean by ’emotional’... Are you a knitting girl/guy? I’d love to be good at knitting (I’m not obviously), any chance I can see your works? They must be lovely.

Hi Gemma - thank you, I hope everything is going well...

  • I really like the shot of "Silver Spray" - excellent contrasting colors in that one. I also really like the bottom photo, the DOF is perfect along with the lighting.

  • Hi Smoove D - thank you, I like the last one as well... The boat is a sort of trade mark on the beach and I like taking pictures around that area.

  • Keiko, that very top picture of the silhouetted children gives me goosebumps. I’m already mourning the passing of summer, and this shot somehow captures my feelings perfectly. How did you take it, if you don’t mind my asking? It seems like the sun is setting (thus, it’s quite dark) and yet the blues of the sky are rich and bright. Would the technicality of the shot be too complicated to explain? If so, please don’t worry! I just had to ask, because it is so beautiful.

  • Rachel - thanks for your kind words again. Like you said, the sun was just setting and the tide was low. I liked the contrast of the light and shadows, but I darkened it a bit with photoshop, so the scene was slightly lighter than the picture.
